Forest-to-bog

Environment

Using purpose-built low ground pressure machinery equipped with state-of-the-art tree shear and mulching heads, we remove forestry with minimal disturbance to sensitive peat soils. Blocking drains, installing peat dams, and creating bunding allows re-wetting to restore hydrological equilibrium in compliance with the Peatland Code. Harvested timber is responsibly realised into biomass and renewable energy markets, displacing fossil fuels and ensuring carbon benefits are maximised across the full lifecycle of the operation.

This approach enables degraded peatlands to be restored to active, long-term carbon sinks, supporting Scotland’s commitment to natural capital enhancement, biodiversity recovery, and carbon capture. These commitments are embedded in Scotland’s broader Climate Change Plan and Net Zero strategy, which positions peatland restoration as a vital contributor to achieving the Scottish Government’s legislated target of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2045 and enhancing natural capital across the landscape.
